Processed with care in a Modern Laboratory is a reconstructed family album created from the artist’s personal family archive. Featuring a mixture of edited and original imagery, this frames the body of work as a traditional family album. However, when looked at more deeply it becomes obvious that the album has been subverted. The digitally manipulated photographs represent the little knowledge she has about her Grandmother, the main subject of the album. The layered archived images show the insufficient amount of information the artist does have. This information juxtaposes with what the smiling snapshots primarily portray. This challenge the perfect idyllic family atmosphere family albums are known to present to the outside world, and publicising this to a greater audience outside of the family circle further connotes this.
